Dinner at Gabriel's, and farewell

At Gabriel's direction, we took the U-Bahn to Alexanderplatz.  Soon he appeared, dressed as a waiter.

Out on the street, we walked to his apartment.  This fruit vendor is just outside the U-Bahn station.

Gabriel's apartment is in a soon-to-be-trendy neighborhood undergoing gentrification.  The entrance hall to his building is fairly funky.

Upstairs, two tables were set for a wonderful Greek dinner.  A toast for our guide and host.

Johannes performed on his viola for us.  He's amazingly good, and played three sets between dinner courses.

Gabriel made sure we never ran short of wine.

Playing matador, in a Stasi or Vopo dress uniform (picture from Julie Rawson).

The woman in the center of the first picture is Ina, our chef for the evening.  Her cooking was delicious.

Gabriel's dog, Stuffy.

Jack organized a gift from us to Gabriel: a huge block of wonderful Fassbender & Rausch chocolate.

A final toast as we're about to leave.  Truly a wonderful evening.  Thank you, Gabriel.

Back to the U-Bahn station, to our hotel, and to our flights home tomorrow.

Could we possibly have had a better ending to our trip?  Not likely.
