Safe and dry in Olomouc

Our journey from Krakow, Poland, to Olomouc, Czech Republic, wasn't nearly the adventure it could have been.  The bus had to make one detour around a closed Wisła bridge, but we were soon back on the main highway and arrived at our Olomouc hotel without incident.  The flooding is a major problem for Poland, but the only real effect it had on us was that we did not visit Auschwitz (it was flooded).

The picture shows the only real flooding we saw, and if the river had been much higher we would not have been able to drive through this part.

Here we are trooping through the main town square in Olomouc, led by our guide Martin. In the second photo, Martin is showing us where we've been and what we'll see next on a charming three dimensional map of the city. Olomouc is a college town with a population of a bit over 100,000.

More Olomouc photos later; now it's time to go to dinner.

  1. This seems a wonderful part of Europe. My Czech students are very interested in the places you are visiting! We'll have to do a similar trip before long!
