Yet another wonderful piano recital

After dinner this evening, half the group went to a chamber music concert, and half to a piano recital.  Both were in Krakow's old city.  I went to the recital, and have not yet heard a report on the chamber music concert.

This was our fourth solo piano recital in as many days, and it did not disappoint.  Our pianist was Piotr Tomasz Szczepanik, who has studied at Julliard and at Krakow, and has performed in cities around the world.  He performed the entire set of J. S. Bach's Goldberg Variations, the first live performance of them that I've attended.  All of us were spellbound.   There were eight of us, and we constituted the entire audience in a room just the right size for chamber works, in part of a palace.  We don't know why there were no others in the audience, but we certainly enjoyed having yet another private performance.

Mr. Szczepanik did an excellent job on the Goldberg Variations.  During the intermission, we were each served a glass of wine, all as part of our admission.

Afterwards, Mr. Szczepanik performed Bach's English Suite, and Chopin's Polonaise-Fantasy in A flat major Op. 61.  An excellent concert, and we all considered ourselves lucky to have been able to attend.

Tomorrow, another walking tour including the museum in the castle.  We'll hope for a bit less rain, but that's not the forecast.
